Shearling Leather Jackets: Aviators, Sheepskin Coats and Shearling-Lined Styles

When the wind has teeth, very little beats shearling. It is a sheepskin tanned with the wool still attached, so the jacket's insulation grows on the same skin as its outer surface. The wool holds warm air close to the body while still letting moisture escape, which is why a good shearling jacket feels warm without feeling clammy on a long walk.

We make shearling and sheepskin jackets to order, from heavy aviators for proper winters to leather jackets with nothing more than a shearling collar. Shops, brands and individual buyers can choose the style, outer finish and wool, and add their own branding. MOQ, price and timing are confirmed per design on WhatsApp.

Ask about shearling jackets

Shearling, shearling-lined or faux?

Sellers use these words loosely, and buyers notice. Being exact protects your returns rate and your reputation:

TermWhat it really isGood to know
ShearlingOne skin: leather or suede outside, natural wool insideWarmest and most breathable; heavier and costlier to make
Shearling-linedA leather outer jacket with shearling sewn in as the liningLets you use a smooth, more weather-resistant leather outside
Shearling collar or trimA normal leather jacket with shearling only at the collar, cuffs or hemAdds warmth where wind gets in, without the bulk
Faux shearlingPolyester pile fabric made to look like woolLighter and cheaper; less breathable; must be described as faux

New to the leathers themselves? The base skin under shearling is sheep or lamb, and our note on lambskin and sheepskin explains how it compares with cowhide and goatskin. If you are weighing shearling against a quilted or flannel lining, our guide to how warm leather jackets really are ranks the main linings from lightest to warmest. For sheepskin, lambskin and mouton on labels, or B-3 versus A-2 styles, see our guide to sheepskin vs shearling aviator jackets. Weighing real wool against a synthetic pile? Our real vs faux shearling comparison covers warmth, weight and care.

Shearling styles we make

B-3 style aviator

The heavyweight: wool-on sheepskin, a wide collar with throat straps, and a belted or strapped hem. Built for real cold rather than a short walk to the car.

Flying jacket

A slimmer aviator with a zip front, a shearling collar that folds flat, and waist adjusters. Warm, but easier to wear in town.

Shearling-lined biker

An asymmetric biker in smooth leather or suede with shearling lapels and lining. Especially popular in women's cuts.

Collar and cuff jacket

A biker, bomber or racer with shearling added only at the collar and cuffs. The lightest way to bring sheepskin into a range.

Shearling coat

Hip, mid-thigh or longer. More skins per piece, so it suits buyers who want one statement winter item.

Shearling trucker

A shirt-collar trucker shape in suede, with a shearling collar and lining. Casual and very wearable.

Black leather jacket with a cream shearling collar and shearling cuffs
A shearling collar and cuffs add warmth at the neck and wrists without the weight of a full sheepskin body.

How shearling is built differently

Shearling looks simple from a distance, but the workshop has to change its habits for it. These are the points worth discussing at the sample stage:

These steps sit inside our normal production stages; if you are comparing leather jacket manufacturers in Pakistan, our manufacturing process page shows the full sequence from pattern to packing.

Outer finish and wool options

Which wool types and colours are available depends on the skins on hand when you order, so we confirm the options with photos or swatches first.

ChoiceOptionsEffect
Outer finishSuede side out, smooth leather finish, waxed or distressedSuede looks softest; a leather finish shrugs off light rain better
Wool typeCurly or straightCurly has a vintage look; straight wool feels smoother
Wool lengthShorter for city jackets, longer for very cold climatesLonger wool is warmer but adds bulk to sleeves and collars
Wool colourCream, brown, black or tonalCream contrast is classic; tonal reads more modern
HardwareSilver, brass, gunmetal, matte blackHeavier buckles and straps suit aviators

Shearling is a natural material, so expect slight variation in wool colour and density between skins. Approve a physical swatch for both sides of the skin, and keep it for reorders. Once the jackets are in use, our winter leather jacket care guide covers drying wool after rain and brushing it back to life. Ordering from abroad? Our guide to ordering a shearling jacket from Pakistan covers choosing skins by photo, customs and shipping.

Packing and shipping bulky jackets

Shearling changes the freight maths. A carton holds noticeably fewer jackets than it would for unlined leather, and couriers usually charge by volumetric weight, so the box size can matter more than the scale reading. Ask for packed carton dimensions with your quote and get freight estimates before you confirm quantities.

We do not recommend vacuum-compressing shearling to save space: it can leave hard creases in the leather and flatten the wool for days. On arrival, unpack the jackets, give each a gentle shake and hang them so the pile recovers before display.

For combined shipments with other styles, see our wholesale shipping notes.

How to order shearling jackets

Send the style, outer finish, wool preference and quantities on WhatsApp, with any reference photos. Shops and brands can add labels, embossing and packaging; individuals can order a single piece to their measurements. If you need a custom jacket manufacturer for a design that is not listed here, send a sketch and we will tell you honestly whether shearling suits it.

FAQ: shearling leather jackets

Is shearling real leather?

Genuine shearling is a sheepskin or lambskin tanned with the wool left on, so the outside is leather or suede and the inside is natural wool. Faux shearling is a polyester pile fabric made to look similar.

What is the difference between shearling and a shearling-lined jacket?

A shearling jacket is made from the wool-on skin itself. A shearling-lined jacket has a separate leather outer with shearling sewn in as the lining, which allows a smoother, more water-resistant outer leather.

Can you add a shearling collar to a biker or bomber jacket?

Yes. A shearling collar, with or without matching cuffs, is a common way to add warmth to a leather jacket without the weight and bulk of a full shearling body.

Do you make faux shearling versions?

Yes. A leather jacket with a faux shearling collar or lining is lighter and costs less than genuine shearling. We label the material accurately so your customers know what they are buying.

Are shearling jackets expensive to ship?

They are bulky, so a carton holds fewer pieces and courier rates are often based on volumetric weight. Ask for packed carton sizes with your quote so freight can be estimated before you order.
